A study on the recent trends of divorce in India

Abstract

This paper presents and discuses recent trends of divorce in India and also highlights both wide variation of divorce pattern and recent changes in divorce trends. In India divorce and separation are considered to be the events that happens relatively rare. Where as the data of the divorce is lacking but there is a rich multi disciplinary literature on various aspects on the marital stability in India. This research article draws on the key aspects of marriages and socio-cultural and legal system which influences the durability of the marriages in India. And also this article presents the estimation of prevalence, its trends and the variations in divorce and also it investigates about the impact of social changes on durability of marriages. This research reveals the significant variation in divorce and the upward trends. The more durable marriages are among the better educated women and the difference between the less educated and better educated women has widened over time.
