Interaction between drought stress and glomus mosseae on the growth of Acacia Nilotica (L) Del Karthikeyan Sadhana Centre for Research and P.G Department of Botany, Thiagarajar College, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India Online published on 11 April, 2014. Abstract Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi play a vital role in enhancing the nutrition and amelioration of drought stress in tree species. Hence the interaction between Acacia nilotica and Glomus mosseae on the growth with biochemical characteristics during drought and subsequent recovery periods has been studied to assess the extent of drought tolerance by the legume. Drought stress did not affect the fresh and dry matter yield, root and shoot length and N&P content of Acacia nilotica. Accumulation of proline and carotenoids and reduction in chlorophyll content and in vivo nitrate reductase activity were found during stress period. Glomus mosseae inoculation is relatively beneficial to P uptake and plant growth under drought stressed conditions.
