DEBT mutual funds – An overview in Indian Scenario

The Indian Mutual Funds Industry has now been grossly researched. The main emphasis of these studies has been to highlight the Performance of Debt Segment of Indian Mutual Funds, studying the comparative analysis with other schemes, investors’ preferences for investing in debt schemes than other schemes etc. The objectives of the present study are to see overall scenario of mutual funds schemes during the period 2007–08 to 2010–11, to study scheme-wise resource mobilization in different mutual fund schemes in general and in debt funds in particular and to assess the trend of growth of debt funds in comparison to equity funds. To attempt these purposes the study has relied on secondary data and depicted these in tabulated manner on which interpretations drawn. Secondary data have been collected from journals, text books, publication such as Indian Journal of Accounting, web sites such as sebi.gov.in etc. Finally, the study reveals that due to various doldrums and risks associated in equity market people are gaining interest to invest in debt mutual funds as it figuring out a regular income to the investors with a minimum risks.
