Performance and cost Benefit analysis of solar Photovoltaic Power Plant for Delhi secretariat Building

Fossil fuel based sources of energy generation cannot sustain the ever-growing human energy needs due to diminishing availability world over and more importantly because of their negative impact on global climate. Therefore, need of hour is to look for other sources of energy generation that are sustainable like wind, solar etc. To reduce the dependence on fossil fuel based energy sources and to prevent environmental degradation, it was decided that Delhi Secretariat building be designed as a green building having a Solar photovoltaic power plant to meet all its energy requirements. Accordingly, a 3MWp Solar photovoltaic power plant is installed at vacant land of dismantled Indraprastha Thermal Power Station located near Delhi Secretariat building. The main objective of this paper is to study the performance and cost benefit analysis of this solar plant. The study primarily focuses on the performance evaluation of plant using the popular grading methods namely Capacity Utilization factor (CUF) and Performance ratio (PR) for the duration November, 2015 to October, 2016. The plant has been producing an average daily yield of approximately 3460 kWh in the study period which resulted into annual yield of 1266 MWh.
