Effectiveness of manual breast pump versus hand expression on breast engorgement among postnatal mothers Mrs. Frida S. Kanis Rexcilin M. Sc (N), Nursing Tutor Gr-II, School of Nursing, Tirunelveli Medical College Online published on 4 December, 2018. Abstract A Quantitative, true experimental comparative study was conducted to assess the Effectiveness of Manual Breast pump versus Hand expression on Breast Engorgement among postnatal mothers at Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. 60 Mothers were selected by simple random sampling and divided into two groups. Manual Breast pump for group-1, Hand expression for group-II. Intervention is three times a day, ten minutes for each breast. Pre and post test level of breast engorgement was assessed by 6-point Lactation Consultant scale. The highest mean difference score of 38.3% was found in group-II and 28.3%, was found in group-I, It was Statistically proved that Hand expression is more effective in reducing breast engorgement than Manual Breast Pump.
