Abstract

This paper attempts to study the impact of COVID-19 on the travel and tourism industry across the globe and also discusses various revival strategies. Primary data was collected through interviews from tourism stakeholders and secondary data from published journals and materials, webinars and industry communication. The findings showed that the pandemic has directly and indirectly impacted the tourism and its related sector in terms of business, revenue and employment. From the data collected through interview, the strategies suggested were classified based on three phases (i) survive- short term, (ii) revive- medium term and (iii) thrive- long term and the strategies are tourism related tax exemption, credit benefits to the tourism industry, bailout packages for start-ups and conducting social audit to combat the situation.
