Abstract

To design a polyherbal ointment and assess its wound healing property in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Based on the literature survey, 04 plants with proven wound healing property were selected; the parts of the plants were collected and subjected to extractions using ethanol as solvent. The herbal extracts obtained were incorporated in a simple ointment base by fusion method. Wistar albino rats weighing between 180-200g of either sex were used for screening the polyherbal ointment. Diabetes was induced chemically using alloxan (150mg/kg; i.p.) and the wound healing property was assessed by excision wound model. The results were statistically interpreted by one way ANOVA followed by Dunnett's test and were compared with that of standard ointment formulation framycetin. From the results, it is clearly evident that the polyherbal ointment posses significant wound healing effect in diabetic rats. Thus, it is concluded that the designed Polyherbal ointment is an effective wound healing formulation..
