Antioxidants and Oral Cancer-A Review

Abstract

There are various types of cancers. Oral cavity cancer is known to be the sixth most frequent cancers in the world. This cancer is mainly caused due to in the influence of external factors such as food and drinks. Other substances includes nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, dental materials etc. Antioxidants that are present in the body are α and β carotene, pro-vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, selenium and spirulina, these are essentials for our body. There should be a proper balance of antioxidants in an individual's body. The tissues in the oral cavity are very delicate. Cell damage or death of the cells can be preveted by antioxidants as the terminate the chain reaction caused by free radicals and oxidative stress. Antioxidants plays a significant role in oral cancer.
