Biofilms may help to maintain the fungi as commensal and pathogen, by evading hostimmune mechanisms, resisting antifungal treatment, and withstanding the competitive pressure from other organisms. However, biofilm related infections are difficult to treat. A sum of 20 clinical isolates of Candida spp were isolated from different immunocompromised individuals and characterized for the ability to produce biofilm by tube method. Apart from C. albicans, we have also isolated non albicans Candida spp and in our study even few of such other species were found to exhibit biofilm, which denotes the shift in the pattern of Candida spp being recovered from the clinical samples and they have the propensity to produce biofilm. This makes the yeast most stubborn and difficult to treat. Top Keywords Candida albicans, non albicans Candida species, biofilm. Top |
