Abstract

Cytotoxic effects of chloroform-methanol extract, protein extract and various fractions of ethanolic extracts of Curcuma amada rhizome were investigated on Human colorectal cancer cell line (HCT116). The ethanolic extract showed excellent cytotoxicity of all extracts with an IC50 value of 14.46μg followed by the Chloroform-methanol extract with an IC50 value of 18.31μg. The various fractions of ethanolic extracts fractionated with petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, n-butanol were also tested for cytotoxicity independently. Ethyl acetate fraction gave an IC50 value of 1012μg and n-butanol IC50 value was 43.19μg, with petroleum ether fraction giving no cytotoxicity. The crude proteins isolated from the rhizome showed good cytotoxicity and gave an IC50 of 43.1μg.
