Breast and lung cancer are the two most common forms of human cancer, which also have a relatively high mortality rate, particularly lung cancer. It is urgent and essential to discover pharmaceutical products that can prevent the growth of cancer cells in general, especially breast and lung cancer. Anoectochilus setaceus Blume has been used in several pharmacological applications and has a long history of medicinal use in traditional medicine. This research was conducted to evaluate the anti-cancer potential of A. setaceus dry extract, which was created by the fermentation method, against the BT474 breast cancer cell line and the A549 lung cancer cell line. High-performance liquid chromatography indicated that A. setaceus dry extract contains three pharmacological compounds, including quercetin, isorhamnetin and ferulic acid. Meanwhile, MTT assay showed that A. setaceus dry extract had quite a strong cytotoxic activity against the BT474 breast cancer cell line and the A549 lung cancer cell line with IC50 value of 5.45 μg/mL and 14.85 μg/mL respectively. These results also concluded that A. setaceus has good medicinal effects, especially on the treatment of breast and lung cancer.
