Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate the in vivo antidiabetic and in vitro antioxidant activity of newly synthesized α, β-unsaturated ketones with ethoxy head. Eleven newly synthesized compounds (E1 - E11) were taken to evaluate for their in vitro antioxidant activity by DPPH and hydrogen peroxide assay method and six compounds which contain electron donating groups were selected for screening of in vivo antidiabetic potential by high fat diet, streptozotocin induced diabetes in Albino Wistar rats. The compounds containing electron donating groups were found to be good antioxidants when compared to standard ascorbic acid. All the selected compounds were found to be effective for antidiabetic activity. Amongst them compound E4 shows more prominent antidiabetic activity when compared to standard metformin.
