Anticancer efficacy of β-Sitosterol Loaded Hydroxyapatite-Alginate on Colon Cancer Cell in Vivo

Healthcare is a challenging subject for medical science. Drug delivery system is a knowing technique to prevent and cure too many diseases. Here in this study is to examine β-Sitosterol loaded Hydroxyapatite-Alginate Nanocomposite using drug delivery systems in vivo. The anticancer activities of β-Sitosterol loaded Hydroxyapatite-Alginate are studied against Dimethyl hydrazine (DMH) induced colon cancer. Colon cancer was induced in male sprague-dawley rats by subcutaneous injection for 15 weeks with DMH (20 mg/kg). After complete of the experiment, the blood and colonic tissue sample were collected from rat. Then serum was separated from blood sample for biochemical and haematological analysis and colonic tissue was used for histopathology and antioxidant analysis. In result, it was identified that high lipid peroxidation and reduced antioxidants stage such as SOD, CAT, GST, GPX and GSH. The intoxication DMH altered haematological parameters measurement such as Hb, WBC and RBC. Further, it increased lipid profiles, tumour markers (AFP and CEA) and changed colonic tissue histology. In conclusion we observed that treatment with β-Sitosterol loaded Hydroxyapatite-Alginate nanocomposite has considerably restored and changed biochemical parameters in DMH induced colon cancer. This clearly signifies the efficacy of β-Sitosterol as an anticancer agent.
