Ex-Vivo Evaluation of Enteric Coated Microparticles Containing an Anti-Cancer Drug

Abstract

Colon is a delicate and sensitive organ which is near to last destination of all food materials in GIT. It is a important organ which is influenced by many disorder, including cancer. Colorectal cancer is one of the major disorders that cause life threat and economical disturbance to patients in Europe, America and other part of world. Most of the patients are of colorectal cancer are of age above 40 years. There is a requirement of a drug delivery system which can overcome and provide relief to patients suffering from colorectal cancer. The aim of the study was to prepare a formulation from vinca alkaloid and study its therapeutic activity in cancer therapy. As an initiation chitosan microparticles loaded with vinca alkaloid is prepared and its activity is studied in cell lines HT29. The microparticles obtained were of uniform size. Optimized formulation was selected for the studies. The ability of formulations was studied by mtt assay, cytotoxic study, cell uptake study etc. The formulation prepared was specifically able to release the drug into the tumor cells and provided a satisfactory cytotoxic activity.
