Osteoradionecrosis has been a serious and not infrequent complication that can affect both adults and children following radiation therapy. The incidence of osteoradionecrosis varies widely in the literature ranging from 1% to 37%. Over the last few decades, several therapeutic options including supportive measures, ultrasound therapy, corticosteroids, hyperbaric oxygen, surgical resection with reconstruction and most recently drugs capable of reversing the fibroatrophic process were considered in the treatment of osteroradionecrosis of the mandible.
