Online published on 31 October, 2018. Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are pathophysiological condition of heart which includes coronary artery disease and other forms of cardiovascular diseases. It is more prevalent in the developing countries although studies indicate that it is present even in the developed countries. There several causes that lead to the progression of cardiovascular diseases in which the predominant cause being Atherosclerosis. Since atherosclerosis is a type of inflammatory condition, several inflammatory cells play a key role in its pathogenesis. IL-1 is an inflammatory cytokine which plays a significant role in the progression of atherosclerosis. Hence this review is done to understand the role of IL-1 in atherosclerosis.
