The plant is extensively used in the treatment of numerous diseases in the ancient system of medicine. Herbal plants possessing medicinal properties has achieved massive place in the field of biomedical research given that these plants are absence of any side effects which is critical issue in drug discoveries and processing. Determination of total phenol and tannin was performed by Folin-ciocalteu method with Gallic acid as standard. Total alkaloid and flavonoid content was determined by chloride colorimetric method and aluminium chloride colorimetric method respectively. The result showed presence of bioactive constituents in the mucilage sample. This was further confirmed by its antioxidant activity performed by various assays namely DPPH radical scavenging assay, ferrous ions chelation and superoxide anion radical scavenging activity.
