Abstract

The aim of the present work was to assess an eco-friendly antibacterial finish extracted from Terminalia chebula with ethanol. The extraction is incorporated into bamboo-cotton woven fabric in the form of nanocapsules by exhaust method in order to reduce the bacterial growth on the fabric. This herbal extract was evaluated for activity against medically challenging bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The in-vitro antibacterial was performed by AATCC 147 for the treated nanoencapsule coated sample. Then the coated sample was analyzed for morphology using FTIR and FESEM test. The results obtained proved the good and long lasting bacteriostatic efficacy during the finishing of bamboo/cotton fabric Thus the study supports the concept of nano encapsulation would provide better additional properties to treated fabric and the application of nanotechnology is one of the ideal ways for improving the antibacterial activity.
