Online published on 12 June, 2018. Abstract Aim The purpose of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the Orange peel oil on Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis. Background The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anti bacterial activity of orange peel oil on streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus the potent initiator and leading cause of dental caries worldwide. Essential oils are distillates of the volatile compounds of a plant's secondary metabolism and may act as phytoprotective agents. Their curative effect has been known since antiquity. It is based on a variety of pharmacological properties which are specific for each plant species. Antibacterial activity of the Orange peel oil was screened against Streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus using disc diffusion technique. The results of this study showed that the extracts at different concentrations exhibited anti bacterial activity against the bacterial species tested. Method The antibacterial activity of the essential oils at different concentrations was screened by disc diffusion technique and the zone of inhibition was measured in mm diameter. Result The results obtained from our study shows that the Orange peel oil have got a very good antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis in dose dependant manner.
