This paper deals with a smart wheelchair that aids the elderly and disabled in their daily lives inside their houses. Since old age and disability comes with various impairments like loss of sight, hearing disability, problems in mobility and cognitive disabilities this wheelchair helps the person using it to move from place to place by controlling the wheelchair through his voice and gesture control through a mobile application. It takes into account the various problems faced by the old and disabled people, hence it provides various modes of mobility for the users and benefits a larger group of users. As the wheelchair moves it detects obstacles, alerts the user and changes its direction automatically. There is an option to set reminders regarding medicines, meals and appointments etc. The system facilitates the user to store his/her medical history and based on that the system predicts medicines and appointments for the patient thus providing cognitive assistance. This research project is an extensive study of the various technologies used to provide aid to the old and disabled, to ease their life and to provide them the feeling of being independent.
