Phytochemical and Antioxidant Activity of (Arachis hypogaea L.) Skin Extract Scultiv Atedin Iraq

Abstract

The present study aimed to assessment the antioxidant activity of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) skin extracts. The phytochemical analysis of the peanut skinextracts were investigated, individual phenolic composition of peanut skin was analyzed by HPLC method which showed10 phenolic compounds were detected (chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, epicatechin, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, resveratrol, quercetin, daidzin, luteolin, kaempferol) in methanolic peanut skin. Total phenolic content was analyzed using Folin-Ciocalteu method, the total phenolic content was observed lowest in the aqueous extracted samples, 12.64 ± 0.08, 27.96 ± 0.12 and 55.82 ± 0.43 in 10, 25 and 50 mg/ml respectively, while that highest concentration of the total phenolics was shown by the methanolic extract which was 19.20 ± 0.13, 45.96 ± 0.07 and 91.97 ± 0.10 in 10, 25 and 50 mg/ml respectively. Antioxidant activity was measured utilizing 2, 2-diphenyl-1-1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity. Results of the study showed that the methanolic extract was the highest free radical scavenging activity followed by ethyl acetate extract then the aqueous extract with values (91.58 ± 0.74, 90.44 ± 1.18 and 78.85 ± 0.65) respectively in 50 mg/mL compared to 90.77 ± 0.85 for BHT and 94.55 ± 0.98 for vitamin C, which means that the methanolic extract of peanut skin is superior to BHT.
