Online published on 25 July, 2019. Abstract The study aimed at exploring stressors faced by mothers who have children with moderate mental retardation. A sample of 120 mothers residing in the states of Maharashtra and Kerala were taken. The sample was equally divided in terms of the state of living and gender of the child. A semi structured interview was conducted through the use of Family Assessment Schedule developed by Dr. Girimaji (1994). Data was analyzed was done using thematic analysis. Results showed two major themes of stressors experienced-psychological and environmental stressors. It was concluded that mothers residing in Kerala and having male children with mental retardation experienced more stress.
