Abstract

Traditional academic libraries are struggling to keep pace with the new digital revolution and the paradigm shift in the education system. Library administrators have to educate themselves to re-engineer library spaces, resources, and services to fulfill the changing users needs. ICT has brought tremendous transformation in the teaching and learning process. The issue of decline in the overall library is a matter of serious concern. The Learning commons is a new concept that is adopted worldwide in all types of libraries. This paper introduces the concept of the learning commons, its historical perspective, goals, and its philosophy. The author has discussed the factors that need to be considered while transforming academic libraries into learning commons.
