Abstract

A study was undertaken to find out the influence of precooling methods and packaging materials on the quality and vase life of cut rose cv. First Red. Results obtained show that all treatments performed better than that of control. Among all the treatments, B1C1 (precooling at 4°C for 24 h with CFB sheet packaging for 16 h) records the maximum increase in quality and vase life of 12.05 days followed by 12.02 days in B1C2 (precooling at 4°C for 24 h with Butter paper packaging for 16 h). Whereas, in treatment B2C1 (spraying ice cold water over the cut flower for 45 min. with a total of 15 sprays and CFB sheet packaging for 16 h) records a vase life of 11.42 days. Control treatment B0C0, shows the vase life of 8.80 days.
