Abstract An analysis of 476 Ph D theses accepted by Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in different disciplines of agricultural science and technology during 20112016 indicates that the number of theses accepted during study period is inconsistent. The highest number of theses was accepted during 2015. Of the 476 theses accepted 353 were submitted by male scholars and 123 by female scholars. Of the total 206 supervisors, 49 were female and 157 were male supervisors. On an average Male supervisors produced more students than female supervisors. Highest number of theses was accepted in the discipline of agronomy closely followed by genetics and plant breeding. Professor D.S. Rana of the Department of Agronomy guided highest number of scholars closely followed by Professor A.K. Singh of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding.
