Describes a questionnaire-based survey of first year Postgraduate students in four departments of the university, to know their need for Information Literacy education. The students most frequently needed information for general subject study (46.8%). More than 95% needed information every week. The library (74.3%) and teachers (55%) were the main sources used for this purpose. Students needed assistance for document search (75.5%), document use (79.6%) and Internet use (70.2%). Their self-searching efforts yielded very low success rate for both printed and Internet resources. 75.3% cited the documents they used for assignment preparation, and 77.8% were able to use MS-Word. The present provisions are insufficient and a full course on IL should be introduced.
