User Education in Agricultural Libraries in India: A Paradigm Need

Abstract

The paper deals with the current situation of user education in the agricultural university libraries in India. states the objectives of user education. Presents a survey report of agricultural libraries where user education is a part of university teaching programme. Highlights the impact of user education on the use of library material; the self reliance achieved by the users through user education programmes and the overall impact on reference service. It also gives the common course contents as a part of the curricula of different universities. Finally, suggests the need for user education to be introduced in all agricultural university libraries in order to make users more self reliant in the use of library and for cost effectiveness and value addition of library material and services.
