Abstract Confirmation and evaluation of reports of resistance against acaricides in ticks, using technical grade acaricide is mainstay for designing any tick control strategy. Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus ticks collected from three Gaushalas (Safidon, Uchana, Dharoli) at Jind district and one Gaushala (Madlouda) at Panipat district of Haryana were investigated for resistance against synthetic pyrethriod (deltamethrin) and phenylpyrazole (fipronil). In these farms, the managers had reported frequent application of heavy dose of deltamethrin at their farm due to heavy tick infestation problem. Efficacy of commercial and technical grade acaricides were evaluated using Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recommended adult immersion test with discriminating dose (AIT-DD) against field ticks. The country specific discriminating dose based on data generated using IVRI-I line was taken as discriminating dose for deltamethrin (59.20 ppm) and fipronil (12.40 ppm). Results revealed a high degree of resistance against commercial and technical grade deltamethrin in ticks collected from Madlouda of district Panipat (23.33%; 46.67%) and Dharoli, Uchana and Safidon of district Jind (13.33%, 13.46%, 26.67%; 66.67%, 66.67%, 46.67%) respectively. However, low resistance was detected against commercial and technical grade fipronil in ticks collected from Madlouda of district Panipat (0.0%; 6.67%) and Dharoli, Uchana and Safidon of district Jind (0.0%, 6.67%, 0.0%; 3.34%, 10.0%, 3.33%) respectively. Data generated showed that commercial compounds were found more efficacious in comparison to technical grade compounds. Results showed that technical grade acaricides are more sensitive indicator of acaricide resistance and are more suitable for monitoring of acaricide resistance.
