Abstract Traditionally, use of probiotics has been associated with treatment of gastrointestinal problems and their beneficial effects cannot be overlooked in this field. Recently, probiotics have been introduced as a treatment option to promote oral health also. Studies have been carried out reporting the anticariogenic effects of probiotics and also their use in treatment of periodontal disease.
