Abstract

This study compares the job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention of managers in public and private sector organizations of India. The study also examines the relationship among job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention are in both type of organizations. Data were collected from 206 low to middle level managers from public and private sector organizations in Delhi and National Capital Region of Delhi. Job satisfaction was measured by Brayfield and Rothe (1951) scale, organizational commitment was measured by Meyer and Allen (1991) scale and turnover intention was measured by Hinshaw and Atwood (1984) scale. The results showed that job satisfaction and all types of organizational commitment (affective, continuance and normative) were high in public sector and Turnover intention was higher in private sector. The study also found that job satisfaction predicts affective and normative commitment more significantly in public sector as compared to private sector. However job satisfaction could not significantly predict continuance commitment in public sector. The results also revealed organizational commitment as a strong predictor of turnover intention and there is a negative relationship between the two.
