Abstract The notion of information literacy has experienced a profound evolution since its initial conception. Originally focused on the capacities to identify, assess, and utilize information proficiently, it has broadened into a multifaceted competence that includes digital, media, and data literacy. The swift pace of technological progress and the extensive dissemination of information within the digital era have exacerbated issues such as misinformation, algorithmic prejudice, and ethical quandaries. Libraries, functioning as epicenters of knowledge, have assumed a pivotal role in the promotion of information literacy. This manuscript delineates the theoretical progression of information literacy, investigates its convergence with emergent literacies, and advocates for a comprehensive framework attuned to the exigencies of the digital epoch. By amalgamating critical thinking, ethical imperatives, and lifelong educational pursuits, this framework positions information literacy as a fundamental element for digital citizenship and empowered communities.
