In today's technology era, technologies act as a tool to remove the geographical barriers in the education domain. It facilitates everybody to learn anytime and from anywhere without the presence of faculty through E-Learning(EL). EL may be defined as the achievement of proficiency and understanding by using the electronic medium like the internet, computer, mobile, and others to enhance teaching and learning activities. The internet has become a crucial tool to arrange the resources for research and study to make resources available for the motive of research as well as for learning, and it helps both faculty and students to gain and share their knowledge. In education, the fame of EL is increasing day by day. EL has also competitive advantages and many universities and colleges have implemented it and it also improves the student's performance.

This paper includes the meaning and definition of E-learning and its role in higher educational institutes and universities. It also summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of EL adaptation and implementation in the teaching and learning process.
