Abstract Special Libraries have been in existence since the Libraries are in place as they have been of special importance to research and industry organizations, government setups, academic institutions, professional societies and trade associations and many more. These special libraries are set up with special needs and offer data about the existing and future interests of the institutions or organisations to which they belong on a regular and consistent basis (Garg andGupta, 1986). Special Librarians and Information Professionals in special libraries focus on information sources and its access. The major work of Special Librarians is to serve clients and preserve the information for the use pinpointed and timely (Strife, 1994). This article focuses on Special Libraries, and is an exploration of issues affecting collaborations among Special Libraries in Asia. Additionally, it explains the issues that Special Libraries in Asia and their associations confront, as well as their conceptions of their roles. The paper also discusses the Special Libraries Association (SLA) in detail which celebrated its 100th year in 2009 and now has 112 years of existence, has been long considered for collaboration and leadership qualities with the characteristic of members of the association (Cromer, 2009).
