ABSTRACT Detection of antibodies against non-structural proteins (NSPs) of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) virus helps in differentiation of FMD infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA). Among all the NSPs, 3AB3 NSP can be used to assess FMD sero-surveillance in bovine population. In the present study, a total of 10,422 bovine serum samples from buffalo (n = 5,038) and cattle (n = 5,384) collected on the day of vaccination during XVI phase of vaccination in the year 2014 under FMD control programme (FMD-CP) from 65 districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh were tested by 3AB3-based NSP-Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Overall, 18.62% (1,941/10,422) serum samples were found reactive to anti-3AB3 NSP antibodies with 19.71% (1,061/ 5,384) cattle and 17.47% (880/5,038) buffalo serum samples positive. A region-wise analysis showed significantly high level of anti NSP-3AB3 antibodies in Bundelkhand region followed by Central and Western Uttar Pradesh, whereas Eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded lowest anti NSP-3AB3 reactivity.
