Antagonistic activity of resident biological agents against wilt and root rot pathogens of pea in different culture media

Abstract

Antagonistic potential of rhizospheric fungal and bacterial isolates evaluated against wilt and root-rot pathogens of pea exhibited significant effect on radial growth inhibition of pathogens in comparison to control. Two isolates of Trichoderma spp., one isolate of Aspergillus niger, one isolate of Penecillium oxalicum and three isolates of Pseudomonas were isolated from rhizosphere of pea and were evaluated for their antagonistic potential against three soil borne plant pathogens viz., Fusarium oxysporum f. sp, pisi, Rhizoctonia solani and Pythium ultimum using dual culture technique in different culture media (potato carrot agar, czapek dox agar, rose bengal chloramphenicol and czapek malt agar). Antagonistic potential of fungal and bacterial isolates were found to be significantly influenced in different culture media. All fungal and bacterial isolates preferred potato carrot agar and czapek dox agar media and resulted in maximum reduction in growth of test pathogen on the culture media.
