Abstract Waste plastic fuel is a sustainable solution for the biggest dual problem of the world i.e. depilation of fossil fuels and environmental degradation due to waste plastic. In this research the waste plastic is converted into liquid fuel and the fuel is tested on the direct injection CI engine. Before testing on the engine the physico-chemical properties of the WPO are tested and the results are compared with standard petroleum diesel fuel. The performance and emissions characteristics of DI-CI engine are also analysed by using WPO as fuel and the results are compared with conventional diesel fuel. The engine shows better performance at higher load while operated with WPO. The emissions are also better than conventional diesel fuel.
