The study revealed that 31.81% calves were positive for presence of E coli in rectal swabs with maximum incidence in within the age group upto 1 week and maximum prevalence during the post monsoon season. For the therapeutic efficacy trials, twelve naturally affected calves with colibacillosis were selected and treated with Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam (Intacef Tazoa) @ 5-10mg/kg body weight daily I/M for 3 days alone and in combination of Oral Rehydration solution containing Dextrose, glycine, sodium chloride, calciumlactate, magnesium sulphate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate. All the animals responded in both treatment groups but the calves treated with oral rehydration solution and antibiotics gave better response.
