Abstract Swine pasteurellosis caused by Pasteurella sp. was observed in nondescript pigs of Chhattisgarh. Out of 500 pigs, 128 (25.6%) died in a short span of 2 weeks. Animals exhibited staggering gait, anorexia, dullness, mucopurulant nasal discharge and dyspnoea. Gross lesions included multiple focal haemorrhages in lungs, liver, muscles and other visceral organs. Lymph nodes were enlarged, oedematous and haemorrhagic. Microscopic lesions corroborated with the gross lesions. The blood smears from heart blood and tissue impression smears revealed teaming number of bipolar organisms indicating the presence of Pasteurella organism.
