A Descriptive Study to Assess the knowledge and Prevalence of Nutritional Anaemia among adolescent girls of 14–18 years in a selected Educational Institution at Bhind

Adolescent form a large growing segment of the population and they represent a major human resource for the overall development of the nation. Nearly 27% of the adolescents in developing country are anaemic. A descriptive survey design was used to assess the knowledge and prevalence of nutritional anemia among adolescent girls of 14–18 years. A sample of 60 adolescent girls of 14–18 years age was selected by using convenient sampling technique. For data collection, knowledge score was obtained by using semi-structured knowledge questionnaire and prevalence score was obtained by using semi-structured knowledge questionnaire and prevalence was measured by observation checklist. Result of the study revealed that The subjects has overall knowledge of 49.6%. Subject had average knowledge in meaning and incidence, causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic measures and prevention whereas in treatment area they had poor knowledge. Prevalence of anaemia was 44% with mild 27% and moderate 17% and no cases of severe anaemia were found. There was no significant association between knowledge and prevalence of anaemia and selected demographic variables at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study showed that the adolescent girls posses average knowledge on anaemia. The Hb values improve with the increase in the knowledge scores. So prevalence decrease with increase in knowledge. So programmes to increase knowledge on anaemia can help to decrease the prevalence of anaemia.
