Abstract Adoption of suitable educational strategies in line with promotion of achievement motivation and clinical self-efficacy is of high importance among student nurses. Methods Time series research design with intensified treatment was selected for the present study. Random sampling technique was adopted. Pre test was conducted by using clinical performance rating scale. Motivational technique I (motivation without coercion) was given once a day for 10 minutes in 1–5 days. Motivational technique II (motivation without coercion and daily activity schedule) was given once a day for 10 minutes in 6–10 days. Motivational technique III (motivation without coercion, daily activity schedule and visualize success) was given once a day for 10 minutes in 11–15 days. At the end of each motivational technique post test was conducted. Results The computed paired ‘t’ test value showed high statistical significance t=11.59, t=17.8, t=25.65 in course of post test-I, II and III correspondingly. When compared with the pre test mean scores (Mean=36) post test mean score was very high (Mean = 82) which indicates that clinical performance has been certainly enhanced after the motivational technique III. Conclusion This study signifies that motivational techniques are effective in improving clinical performance among nursing students.
