Summary

An experiment was conducted during 1963–64 and 1966–67 to determine the optimum time for planting, kind of cuttings to be selected and methods of raising rooted cuttings in Bilemalligesara variety of pepper. The percentage of sprouting and rooting were maximum when cuttings were planted in April, May and June. Planting in June gave the best results. The rooting response of cuttings was below average in the winter months. Semiherbaceous cuttings were best suited for greater success in rooting when compared with woody and herbaceous cuttings. Raising of rooted cuttings in beds was better than that in bamboo containers. For transport of rooted cuttings bamboo baskets may be preferred.
