Inter-Relationship between Yield and some Agronomic Characters in Short Statured Rice Cultures* Saini S. S., Gagneja M. R. Department of Plant Breeding, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana *Contribution No. 73/16. Online published on 25 January, 2012. Summary Correlation and path coefficients were studied in 40 semi-dwarf rice cultures received from the International Rice Research Institute, Los Banos, Philippines. More or less similar values were obtained for phenotypic and genotypic correlations; genotypic correlations were slightly higher than phenotypic correlations. The grain yield was significantly associated with days to heading, panicle length and spikelets per panicle. Days to heading had significant positive correlation with plant height and 1000 grain weight, and panicle length with spikelet number per panicle. Number of ear-bearing tillers per plant was negatively associated with all the characters including yield. Path coefficient analysis indicated that spikelets per panicle is important yield component followed by ear-bearing tillers per plant, 1000 grain weight, panicle length and days to heading in the order given.
