A study to assess the effectiveness of awareness programme on knowledge regarding district early intervention centre among mothers of selected areas of north Gujarat

Abstract

Introduction

District early intervention center under RBSK programme of ministry of health and family welfare, goal provides the much needed early interventions services, which are easily approachable, adoptable, user friendly and cost effective. At DEIC, 4Ds i.e., Defects at birth, diseases, deficiencies, developmental delays and disabilities are being identified at a very early stage, so that we can minimize the disability in child and improve the quality of their lives.

Objective

To assess the knowledge regarding district early intervention centre among mothers of control group and experimental group, To assess the effectiveness of awareness programme on district early intervention centre among mothers of experimental group, To find out the association of knowledge with their selected demographic variables in control group and experimental group.

Material and Method

A Quasi experimental pretest posttest control group design approach under taken in north Gujarat. Data collection was there 60 Mothers (30 experimental and 30 control group) of under 6 years children.

Results

In experimental group the pretest mean was 5.64 and post test mean was 16.97. The pre test standard deviation was 2.06 and the post test standard deviation was 3.05. “t” value was 16.86. In control group the pretest mean was 5.97 and post test mean was 6.24. The pre test standard deviation was 1.86 and the post test standard deviation was 1.90. “t” value was 0.5562. There is no significant association between the knowledge and selected demographic variables.

Conclusion

Finding of the study indicate awareness programme was significantly effective in improving knowledge of mothers of under 6 years children regarding district early intervention centre.
