Temper tantrums, also known as acting-out behavior, are unplanned or unintentional emotional outbursts exhibited in response to an unfulfilled demand of the child. Temper tantrum may range from simple crying (for a long time) to kicking, beating, holding breath and rolling on the floor.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of IEC regarding temper tantrum among mothers of under five children.

Methods and Material

A pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test research design was adopted on 60 Mothers of under five children by using convenient sampling technique. A self-administered structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge followed by IEC programme. The analysis of data was computed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

In pre-test Mothers of under five children had inadequate knowledge score that is 60(100%) and one had moderate and adequate knowledge score regarding temper tantrum. In post-test the majority of mothers of under five children in post-test had moderate knowledge score that is 46(76.66%)) and 14(23.33%) mothers showing adequate knowledge score. There was no one who had inadequate knowledge score.

It was concluded that post-test scores were more as compare to pre-test score thus mothers of under five children has adequate knowledge score, thus the present study suggested that IEC programme on temper tantrum was successful in gaining the knowledge of mothers.
