High-reliability organizations (HRO) are distinct paradigm that denotes medical error reduction and patient safety improvement. Hospitals, as a vital and dynamic organization in the health care system, can transform to HROs to achieve optimum performance and maximum safety in order to manage astonishing and unpredicted events efficiently.
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of high reliability organizations (HROs) training program on staff knowledge and compliance in all medical care units and paramedical units at one private hospital at Alexandria Governorate, Egypt.
A quasi-experimental research design was utilized with the target group including the managers, supervisors, and key (senior) staff who were working in the previously mentioned settings with at least six months of working experience and who were available at the time of data collection. (N = 70).
Two tools were used to conduct the study: Tool I: High Reliability Organizations Knowledge Questionnaire (HROsKQ) and tool II: Common Characteristics of HROs Compliance Questionnaire. HROs training program was introduced to study subjects as the study intervention.
There was a significant difference in the overall percent score of staff knowledge after one month from attending the training program where p < 0.001. Moreover, there was a significant difference in the overall mean percent score of staff compliance with HROs after one month from attending the training program where p <0.001.
Based on the study results, it can be concluded that HROs training program had highly statistically significant differences on staff knowledge and compliance with HROs between before and after one month from attending the training in all medical care units and para-medical units at one private hospital at Alexandria Governorate, Egypt.
