Effect of Rehabilitation programme on Dyspnoea and Exercise Tolerance among the COPD patients

Abstract

Rehabilitation is a comprehensive intervention programme which helps to promote the health promotion behaviour with COPD patients. A quasi experimental study was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of rehabilitation programme on dyspnoea and exercise tolerance among the COPD patients.

Objective

Assess the effect of rehabilitation programme on dyspnoea and exercise tolerance among the COPD patients.

Method

The study was conducted in Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni (Bk). A total of 30 patients were enrolled using convenient sampling technique. The study group were advised to perform the rehabilitation programme for 30 minutes duration per session at home twice daily. Rehabilitation intervention included Deep breathing exercise and Six minute walking exercise. Follow-up visit was conducted by the researcher during home visit for three months. The control group patients were advised to continue their standard treatment.

Result

The findings of the study revealed that there is statistically significant difference before and after implementation of rehabilitation programme in relation to dyspnoea and exercise tolerance. Chi-square test shows there is statistical association between demographic profile namely, age, gender, occupation, history of active smoking, duration of illness (p<0.05) level.

Conclusion

There were positive effects of rehabilitation programme on dyspnoea and exercise tolerance among the COPD patients.
