A study to assess the level of satisfaction regarding nursing services among the patients admitted at mental health institute (COE), SCBMCH, Cuttack

A descriptive study with quantitative approach was under taken on 50 psychiatric patients selected by purposive sampling technique at Mental Health Institute (COE), SCBMCH, Cuttack to assess the level of satisfaction regarding nursing services among the psychiatric patients. Data was collected from 20.01.2017 to 03.02.2017 through questionnaire formulated in the form of 4-point likert scale. Collected data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Highest Percentage (90%) of the patients were in the age group of >18 years. A majority (54%) of them were male and (94%) of them were Hindus and (4%) of them were Muslim. Majority (48%) of them were married (20%) of them had housewife. Highest percentage (32%) of them had primary education and majority (54%) of them were having income nil and (52%) of them from joint family. Highest percentage (66%) of them was from urban area and highest percentage (60%) of them had 1-2years of illness. Majority (72%) of them were having family history of psychiatric illness. The overall level of patients’ satisfaction regarding nursing services revealed that all the patients had only satisfied with nursing services. Satisfaction towards the different dimensions of nursing care showed that highest (100%) percentage of patients are agreed with treatment aspects, (98%) in physical and spiritual aspects, (96%) in psychological aspects and (94%) in social aspects of nursing services. It revealed that highest percentage of the patients under study had only agreed with different aspects of nursing services. There was significant association between the demographic variables with the level of satisfaction regarding nursing services.
