A Study to assess the level of knowledge among Family members of Psychosis in-Patient at MIND Psychiatric Hospital, Bangalore regarding Suicidal Preventive Strategies

Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge among family members of Psychosis in-patient regarding suicidal preventive strategies. The study was conducted in MIND Psychiatric Hospital, Bangalore. Total samples were 50. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used. The research tool was developed in English after an extensive of literature and experts opinion it was translated in to Kannada by language experts. The structured questionnaire was used as an instrument to measure the level of knowledge regarding suicidal preventive strategies among family members of Psychosis in patient at MIND Psychiatric Hospital, Bangalore. This study revealed that 31 (62%) of family members of psychosis in-patient have moderately adequate knowledge and 19 (38%) of family members of psychosis in-patient have inadequate knowledge regarding suicidal preventive strategies among family members of Psychosis in patient at MIND Psychiatric Hospital, Bangalore. Chi-square test was calculated to find out the association between the level of knowledge regarding suicidal preventive strategies among family members of psychosis inpatient and selected Socio-demographic variables and Percentage distribution of socio-demographic variables of family members of psychosis in patient. It shows that there is significant association between the level of knowledge and demographic variables like source of information, locality of living, history of any disease regarding suicidal preventive strategies and no significant association between the level of knowledge and demographic variables like age, occupation, education, relationship with patient, Marital Status, diagnosis of the patient and socio economic status regarding suicidal preventive strategies.
