Sustainable infrastructure development for competitiveness: Case of knowledge infrastructure

Infrastructure is a necessity for competing in today's world focused on physical goods. It is an important factor in competitiveness models. Low ranking of India on numerous infrastructure related criteria is often cited as a reason for low overall competitiveness of India.The role of infrastructure can be viewed differently from flexibility and sustainability perspectives. Attempt has been made in this paper to review the changing role and definition of infrastructure in context of emerging information-based society. Drawing on secondary data from few high quality sources on competitiveness, position of India and select countries and trends are identified. Learning are synthesized and implications are drawn for experts working on infrastructure and related areas.
