Online published on 1 October, 2011. Abstract Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is an important and multifunctional antioxidant that destroys many of the free radicals that are harmful to the human body. It is being often described as “universal”, “ideal”, “broad spectrum” and “metabolic” antioxidant. Its major advantage is its both lipid and water solubility. If its essential role in health is any indication, alpha-lipoic acid may very well join the ranks of vitamins C and E as part of first-line of defense against free radicals. This article is an effort to update importance of ALA in general and oral health. Top Keywords Alpha lipoic acid, antioxidant, keto acid dehydrogenase. Top | |
